Rashtra Raksha Mahayagya will help strengthen the nation, says Home Minister

"The main objective of Rashtra Raksha Mahayagya is to make our country more prosperous and strengthen our nation," says Home Minister Rajnath Singh. This Hindu ritual features 108 hawan kunds, 2,100 priests, and over 51,000 patriotic attendees.

The apex community funding this event includes well-known names like Padam Chand Garg (Chairman, PC Jewellers), Rajeev Mittal (Director, RK Associates), Amrit Singla (Chairman, Mapsko Builders), and Harish Popli (Director, Ambadeep estates).

Rajnath Singh added, "It is not to pose a threat to any other country but to serve the rest of the world, and to ensure that India again takes the seat of Vishwa Guru (world leader/guider)." The Rashtra Raksha Mahayagya will be organised at Delhi, outside the lawns of the Red Fort. The mahayagya (big ritual) will be a week-long affair that will be held over March 18-25.   

Soil and water will be brought from chaar dhaams (four pilgrimage sites of Hindus), Doklam (Sikkim), Poonch (Jammu & Kashmir), and Line of Control (Wagah Border, Punjab). The locations mentioned other than pilgrimage sites are famous points where Indian soldiers struggle against the incursion of militants and malicious intent of insidious neighbours.

Many deem it a waste of time and money, but the event may play a significant role in psychological warfare against the enemies of India. According to Rajeev Mittal, the Rashtra Raksha Mahayagya will inspire our men at the borders and let them know that we are praying for their well-being and safety. While it may be leagues apart from actual warfare, such events can cause ample damage to the enemy’s resolve. During the Vietnam War, American soldiers used to wear the ‘Ace of Spades’ card on their helmets. This particular symbol was considered to be an emblem of death and bad luck. On the other hand, American soldiers wore the card as a good luck charm.  


The mahayagya will also pledge to protect the honour of women, the environment, the constitution, public cleanliness, public property, and the right to vote. Priests will ritualise the destruction of corruption, communalism, and casteism to bring peace and tranquillity to the nation.

Traveling via train is arduous, but I prefer wheels over wings because you get to see the regional culture change along the way.
